... and thank you for visiting our web site. Our 2011-12 season will be launched by the inaugural concert of "Cantaremos", our choir for female voices conducted by Vivien Pike.
The full chorus gets under way in November and will perform the Brahms German Requiem and Jonathan Willcocks Lux Perpetua (subtitled 'Peace and Unity') with the Northern Chamber Orchestra on Remembrance Saturday. Christmas Carols will be on Thursday 15 December in Ecclesfield Parish Church.
February 2012 will see the chorus performing early music which will include works by Thomas Tallis and Tomás Luis de Victoria, while in March we will combine two firm favourites of the choral repertoire, Mozart's Requiem and Haydn's Nelson Mass.
A busy June will see the chorus bow out with a concert to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee which will include Handel's Coronation Anthems and the season will end as it started with another performance by Cantaremos, this time with strawberries and wine.
The SOC Academy continues to offer sight-reading, vocal technique and music theory sessions to any members wishing to improve their singing skills. We are also launching an apprentice scheme for any male singers who would like to brush up their skills and develop their technique before joining us on stage.
