Welcome to the Sheffield Oratorio Chorus

We have an exciting season ahead for 2007/8!

We will be singing four major concerts in Sheffield Cathedral during the season and begin our programme in November 2007 with Rachmaninov's atmospheric setting of music from the All Night Vigil Service, the Vespers. Written just before the Russian revolution of 1917, and within the long tradition of Russian Orthodox music, it is a highly evocative and beautiful choral work.

After our traditional Christmas Carol concert in St Andrews, Psalter Lane Church, we return to the Cathedral in March 2008 to sing Bach's St John Passion and are delighted to welcome the Cardiff Singer of the World finalist, Elizabeth Watts to our performance of Haydn's Creation in April.

Our Summer concert this year is the less well known Company of Heaven by Benjamin Britten. Written in 1937, it was not performed in full until 1997 and here it is paired with John Rutter's Magnificat.

Next Season sees our Diamond Jubilee year and although it is now too late to enter our "Music for a Jubilee" competition, to compose a short piece for a £2000 prize, you can still click on the Jubilee Competition link on the left of the screen for more details.

If you are interested in singing with the Chorus, we are open to recruiting in all voices. This year, in particular, we are looking for singers for our tenor and bass lines.

You will find details of how to join us here on the website. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings and details of how to find us can be found by clicking here.
